This
show that Andrew is currently booking dates for in the Midwest
US combines two of his loves, the crooner/swing style of
music(ala Sinatra,
Bennett,
and Crosby) and old time radio. Not only do you get 15 songs
from some of America's best loved songwriters such as George
& Ira Gershwin,
Harold Arlen,
Johnny Mercer, Duke Ellington, Rodgers & Hart, Jerome
Kern, Richard Whiting, and Hoagy Carmichael, but the show
also features classic commercials from the time like Wheaties,
Ovaltine, and Carter's Little Liver
Pills. As the show begins we are transported back to the
late 1940's and the studios of fictitious radio
station WOWA in New York City. Radio announcer
Jim Dandy is just beginning a very special broadcast of
"Evening With The Stars", very
special because slated as tonight's guest is none other
than
Mr. Frank Sinatra. However, as Jim starts to speak we find
out that Frank has
been detained in Hollywood and will be unavailable to make
the broadcast.
With this late notice, WOWA does something different. They
decide
to give an unknown performer the chance of a lifetime to
perform for a listening
audience prepared to hear Sinatra. What follows is a program
of nostalgia with Andrew Driscoll singing some of
the greatest standards from the
30s and 40s.
